Coast Trip-walk on the beach

A new tradition was born on this trip. After dinner we would go walk on the beach and pick up shells. It's like a totally different place once the sun starts to set.

Coast Trip-Fishing

Some of the best memories I have of the beach are when my dad used to take us fishing. It was wonderful to have him teach the kids as well. He was significantly better at it than I was....to the point that the kids didn't want to fish with me. "mommy can't catch any fish, I want to fish with you Grandpa" (sigh)

Coast Trip-Aquarium

This was the first day with my dad. He took us to the Texas State Aquarium. The kids just loved it. It was a good day to spend out of the sun.

Coast Trip-Sno Cones

This was on the second day of our trip with my mom. The kids had talked ALL DAY about getting sno cones. Luckily there was a place right next to the restaurant we had dinner at.

Sweet Berry Farm (24 photos)

Today I took the babies out to Sweet Berry Farm to pick strawberries. We had a BLAST! Afterwards we had homemade strawberry popsicles that made a huge, lovely mess. Between the both of them, they nearly picked 4lbs of strawberries. Good thing I had cash! Anyone know any good strawberry recipes??

Ricks's Farm (28 photos)

We went out to Donna Ricks's parent's farm this past Saturday. The kids just LOVED it out there and said they want to live with them. They got to bottle feed goats, feet chickens and gather eggs. Poor Mrs. Ricks even chased around their cranky miniature horse, Marty to no avail. Mrs. Ricks sent us home with a dozen eggs and there were only three left this morning. Sofia LOVES eggs and said she wanted a "huge plate" of chicken eggs this morning.

CCPS egg hunt 2009 (18 photos)

It was a chilly morning for an egg hunt. Their school put on their annual Easter egg hunt and picnic this morning. We ended up doing the picnic indoors b/c the weather was so blustery. We used a sand bucket instead of a basket. Hey, we're in south Texas, right?! There was a 20 egg "maximum" per child so there would be enough to go around. Try telling that to them when there's plenty of room left in their buckets.

Sugar Cookies (28 photos)

Okay, so this turned into more of a production than I initially anticipated. Most of you who know me, know that I couldn't settle for ordinary cookies in a tube. I had to bust out my Paula Deen cookbook and find the fattiest recipe (2 sticks of butter) for sugar cookies. They had so much fun and so did I. After we finished the cookies, they started rummaging through the pantry pulling out pudding and jello to keep cooking.

We kept telling the kids it was Thanksgiving Vacation so they thought we were going somewhere...on vacation. They think it's so much fun to stay in a hotel that we thought it would be something fun to do too. They had a great time, but we were all a little sleep deprived by the time we came home.

CCPS Egg Hunt (21 photos)

This past Monday, Oscar and Sofia had an egg hunt at their preschool, followed by a picnic lunch. The had so much fun during the hunt and wanted to open every egg immediately to see what kind of candy it was carrying. Of course, once the egg was opened, any candy found was immediately consumed. Needless to say, nap time was a bit of a struggle that afternoon. Oh well, they loved the hunt and it was great to smell their chocolate breath

Sofia's party at preschool (7 photos)

Mommy's weakness are doughnuts, so why wouldn't Sofia feel the same?! She (ahem) requested I bring doughnuts and kolaches to her party at school. How could I argue with that? I stayed with her in her class through the morning and we had so much fun working on projects together. Later that afternoon at home after her nap, she told me that it made her very happy that I stayed with her there at school. My heart aches with her sweetness.

Every time LaLa comes to visit, she brings a snack back filled with various nuggets of nutrition. Some are more healthy than others, but those quickly get passed over for the deliciousness of chocolate and marshmallows.... It doesn't take a genius to foresee a late bedtime. Thanks LaLa!

Sofia's 4th Birthday (17 photos)

I just can't believe that she's already 4 years old. I know it sounds cliche, but it seems like only yesterday we were driving home from the hospital, scared out of our minds, with this beautiful, tiny bundle. Now she's four, still with an attitude (much like my own, I'm afraid), but yet so full of thankfulness that I'm sometimes rendered speechless. I feel so fortunate that we are blessed with such a beautiful spirit, one who's compassionate, thoughtful but yet spunky. I can't wait to see what the years ahead have in store for us.

Silky Sue's first day (7photos)

We have a family dog! Her name is Silky Sue and she's a Yorkie born 11-12-07. She's about 3 lbs right now and will probably grow to be about 5lbs. The pictures can be deceiving, but she's about the length of a roll of English muffins. She is the sweetest little dog and the kids are just going crazy over her. We've been talking about getting a dog for a while now and found a great breeder in Abilene. Silky has settled in nicely to the house and had a wonderful 1st night. Let's hope all her nights are as peaceful as last night.

He was quite the house guest!

Christmas morning (16 photos)

We had a later start to Christmas morning than we expected. Sofia and Oscar both slept in a little after being out so late for Christmas Eve. They were really startled when they came into the living room to see all their toys. They'd both asked Santa for cars for Christmas. When Sofia saw her Jeep she said, "Where's my princess car?" I told her that I didn't realized she'd gotten that specific with Santa. Of course they both warmed up to the cars pretty quickly. Oscar had some drive time, but he hasn't quite gasped the "both hands on the wheel" concept. He would push the gas and hold on to the windshield.

Prepping for Santa (11 photos)

here is another year of traditions in the making. The kids and I made thumbprint cookies that afternoon using their sweet little thumbprints. Oscar had a little too much fun with my mixer and sent flour flying all over the kitchen when he cranked that baby up as high as it would go. (sigh) Sofia was very particular about using her over (the bottom one) so Santa would know she made them. We also set out reindeer food (oatmeal with green and red sugar), cheese for Santa mouse and milk. Against my better judgement, I didn't pick up the semi empty milk glasses the next morning before Oscar was able to take a big swig.

Sofia spotted us when she first came out and kept her eye on us the whole time. She was so proud that we were watching her.

Sant'a List

So many of you have asked what the kids want from Santa. Thank you so much for your generosity!! They kids are really looking forward to Christmas this year. We've been talking alot about giving gifts at Christmas and those less fortunate. The kids have really enjoyed putting change in the Salvation Army buckets too. I hope that next year they will be old enough to go with us to volunteer for different charities. We try to talk to them about the importance of sharing and giving to other people and how it makes us feel to do nice things for our friends. Sofia really has an exceptional understanding of the whole process whereas Oscar is just along for the ride right now. :-)

This year Santa is bringing them each little driveable cars. This was on the top of their list when we went to visit Santa. It was funny to see his expression when they said they wanted cars for Christmas. Who doesn't?! We are also getting Sofia a V-Smile. She's fully able to click on her programs on Daniel's computer and navigate through them quite easily. She's learing to read the alphabet and absolutely loves to do arts and craft projects. Sofia really likes "pretend play" (cooking, baby doll care, etc) items, playing princess dress up, barbies, pretend makeup.

Oscar really enjoys pretend play items as well, push toys and little cars. He has a litte car garage that he ejoys playing with. He also really enjoys the "Little People" line of toys. Aunt Mimi lent us a doll house and they both enjoy playing with that. He also loves to help me in the kitchen with cooking. It's one of the few times that he gets serious and is really focused.

As far as their sizes, Sofia is in a 3T (shirt and pants)and wears a size 8 shoe. She absolutley LOVES clothes and shoes (I know, we're in trouble) and anything girly like tights, skirts, boots. Oscar is now in a 3T shirt, 2T pant and also wears a size 8 shoe, he just needs the wide size. Hard to believe he was a 4lb 10oz baby that we used to call the "rib king" because he was so skinny.

Tonight the kids and I did some cooking for Thanksgiving. Just like their mommy, they LOVE to cook. Halloween 2007 (21 photos)

This was our first halloween in the new neighborhood. The kids had so much fun...and so did we. Aunt Ruby took the night off to come spend with the kids and they really loved her costume. Sofia was running from house to house and was always the first to ring the doorbell, often saying "trick or treat" before they opened the door. Oscar was more concerned about the candy. He must have eaten about 5 lollipops along the way. He got really good at saying trick or treat and would even say "buenos noches" and thank you.

FINALLY!!! The new house is ready

It has been a long awaited event and a series of moves that has finally brought us to this wonderful day. We packed up our house in December after Christmas and put stuff into storage. In January, we found this house in Cedar Park, picked out the lot and put down the deposit to start the building process. We then prepped the old house and put it on the market in March. Luckily it sold for us very quickly and we were off to the little rental house in north Austin. What a change for us! We lived there for almost 6 months while the house was was being built. Fortunately, we were able to visit it nearly every day. We closed on the new house on August 24th and moved over the course of a (really hot) weekend. Thankfully, LaLa had the kids, so we were able to make their transitions easier by having their rooms completely set up by the time they came home. Now here we are 2 weeks later and are pretty much completely settled. It's such a beautiful house and everyday we walk around saying how much we love this house. Now it's time for a housewarming party! Many thanks to everyone who helped us with the kids, with packing and the whole moving process!!!

Our new house! (click on photo to see album)

We just signed a contract to start the build of a new house in Cedar Park. I know, I know, it’s far from everybody but there is so much more value up north. Take a look… It’s a 2272 sq feet single story plan with 4 bdrm, 3 bath, 2 dining, 1 living, 1 laundry, and one mud room (and a DOUBLE OVEN!). The photos you’ll see below are to a ‘spec’ house that’s already completed and sold. Ours will be built “from scratch” and should be ready by September. In the interim we plan on selling our current home and then moving into an apartment or rental house until our new house is completed.

Sofia and cousin Marissa.

My beautiful girl!

Yuck!

I don't think he likes chocolate....definitely not a trait that he received from mommy.

Am I doing this right, mom?

Happy birthday Oscar!!

Everybody sing!

We stripped Oscar down to his britches in anticipation of him destroying his birthday cake.

Sofia enjoying the jump-a-roo.

I'm a real big boy.

Like this, Boy!

Gwenny (Cheryl and Richard's daughter) was a little scared of all the big jumpers in the jump-a-roo.

My birthday boy. He just got woken up by LaLa, otherwise he would have slept through his whole party.

The aftermath of the "brotherly love" shot.

This is how I show you my brotherly love.

Cooper started walking about a month ago and was walking circles around Sofia and Oscar while they were in the pool.

Sofia loved that this pool was deeper than hers at home. She told Gretchen, "I love your new pool!".

My beautiful baby boy.

I LOVE to splash!

My sister and I

Once Coop figured out how to get out of the pool, he didn't want to get back in.

After the cake came the pool.

What kind of defective cake did my mom buy?

I loooooooooved chocolate!

Do I have something on my face?

The hat was a little too big.

Mommy and I at the circus!

The hat came with the cotton candy.

You gotta have cotton candy at the circus! When we got to the seats, she wouldn't eat it. Probably because it looks like the cotton we use to do her toenails.

WOW!

"I don't know about this clown, Dad."

Sofia's first interaction with a circus clown.

Sofia's (and Mama's) first trip to the circus. We arrived early to see some of the pre-show. Note the look of amazement on her sweet face.

Some may find this a little gross, but I absolutely LOVE to see Oscar do a full smile with a mouthful of food. Pictured here, a classic ravioli smile.

Hey mom, look what I did while you were sleeping!!

What? I didn't do anything.

Note the start and stop points of the removal process. Coincidence? I think not.

A midnight snack. I found this piece of border (along with a few other pieces) in his crib when he woke up this morning.

As we were blistfully sleeping, Oscar decided that he'd had enough of his silly room decor.

Last night Oscar decided to do some redecorating. Note the missing border...

Don't kiss me in front of my friends, Dad! I took my shirt off to impress the ladies.

Will this thing really swing 'round my belly if I shake my hips?

Dude, which way to the snack table?

The grass skirt got in the way of her trampoline skills.

Hey guys! Just call me Oscar P.I.

We attended a Luau tonight. I'm proud to say that Sofia was the only one in a coconut bra. There was a little girl there that asked us if she was from Hawaii.

Reading a book about Elmo to Elmo.

A little reading before bedtime.

She quickly figured out the entry/exit point. A potty was used until Mommy can go out and get a stool (no pun intended).

Sofia in her "new" big girl bed. Daddy is still in the assembly process.

Going for a ride in the wagon....or the 'woody' as Sofia calls it. It was their first time together in there. Unfortunately, the ride was cut short on account of the humidity and heat.

Hey, if anyone needs some extra space to put things, I've got some room between my front teeth.

Cooper just got finished spanking Oscar.

Wild eyed Cooper James.

A party at Gretchen & Jim's turned into Brokebath fest! Here is Oscar, Sofia, and Cooper taking a bath.

We look just like our Dad, who ironically looks just like our Mom!

A group shot of all the babies. From left to right: Jim & Gretchen parents of Cooper, Sofia, Daniel, Oscar, Gwen and Cheryl, Ginger and Camille. At one time Grechen was pg with Cooper, while I was pregnant with Oscar, while Cheryl was pregnant with Gwen, while Ginger was pregnant with Camille. What a difference now!

Mama's flag cake in honor of Memorial Day. It was a hit!

Daddy just made this today! What an awesome new tire swing, courtesy of a roadside find in good ole' south Austin.

Camille and Oscar. Check out his gut! He weighed in at 22 lbs this morning.

From left to right: Camille, Brooke (Michelle McAllister's daughter who's almost 4), Oscar, and Cooper (Gretchen's son, one day older than Oscar).

Here is my sweet Lovely Bear!

Here are some photos from our Memorial Day party. We had a few missing members from our original "Pregnancy Party" crew, but it was still a lot of fun. TONS of babies!! This is a photo of Oscar and Camillle (Joe & Ginger Jarosek's baby). Camille is one month older than Oscar.

This is the entrance lobby. BTW, we stayed at the Secrets Capri resort just outside of Playa Del Carmen. http://www.secretsresorts.com/capri/ We heard a lot of good things about it and cannot wait to return. It was a beautiful resort and the service was outstanding!

Mama on the catamaran.

Daddy on the catamaran. Again note my skills as a photographer. The sea was very angry that day, my friends. Like an old man trying to send back soup at a deli.

One of the many fantastic entrees that helped put on a little extra 'fluff

A funny caption that said "Lobster Biscuit", but was supposed to say Lobster Bisque.

Note the ominous rain clouds.

This was just a gorgeous pool!

A pier being rebuilt near our resort.

In this photo you'll see one of the many books I read on the trip. And in Daddy's lap.....nothing. His motto is that you can strain your neck reading, so it's best to avoid it at all costs.

The other half of the pool, from our balcony.

This was on the second to the last day. A view of half the pool from our balcony.

Just like in the commercial!

We took a ride on a catamaran and this was the view of our resort from the boat.

Daddy's favorite view!

As Sofia would say, "nices"

As part of my Mother's Day gift, we got sunset massages on the beach. mmmmhh, momma like!

Another photo of the immacuate grounds. You would never know that a massive hurricane hit this resort!

(in a quote from Napoleon Dynamite) I want that!

Another shot of us. Notice that I'm the only one who's eating....an attempt to reach one of my vacation goals: gaining at least 5 lbs, doing nothing but laying by the pool and beach, and taking at least 2 naps/day.

An overview of the pool/beach from one of the restaurants where we had breakfast.

This is the view from our balcony.

This was taken just outside our room.

Here I am, the not so bright photographer, trying to take our photo in the elevator mirror. Good grief!

The hallway leading to our room.

this is a view of the lower entrance to the lobby, coming in from the pool/beach.

Some of Mama's medicine!

Okay, so I know this is supposed to be a blog about the babies, but we just took this wonderful trip to Playa and I had to post some photos. This is Daniel on the second day of the trip, feeling better from his back thanks to the help of pain killers, muscle relaxers, and some tequila.

A beautiful shot I took of my daughter's hand in my grandmother's hand.

He's such a giggle box.

My big fat Boy!

My beautiful Lovely Bear!!

Now that Sofia has perfected her technique, she tries it out on me.

My mom helping Oscar crack an egg on Sofia's head.

Get in my belly!!

Sofia is taking a crack at Daddy. Her technique was a little different. She cleaned up the mess on Daddy's hair once the egg had been emptied.

A fine tradition of cacarones/confetti eggs. Her Oscar is cracking on on Paw Paw's head.

Oscar's first Easter basket from my Aunt Annie. Do I spy Fritos inside?? I bet Oscar could make a soggy mess of those.

GiGi's eggs have a special surprise inside... coins!! A tradition since I was a little girl.

Finding that hidden egg.

Here is Sofia on her first real egg hunt at Gigi's (my grandmother's) house.
